The effect will be more noticeable if you put something in the background that isn’t blank.

3.1. The model is a bit bigger than your bus, with something as low as what you used very little would be in focus.

At f/1.4 the DOF is something like 2 mm. Extremely shallow. And the DOF at a given aperture isn’t the same for the same aperture on a different lens. If a Canon L lens didn’t cost $1,500 , I’d love to play with one. Oh, the guns and cameras — and cars — I’d buy if they’d drawn my numbers on that damned PowerBall thing. I had all of my plans already made.

Those pictures I posted were taken with a $200 fixed-lens Fujifilm. I got to borrow a Nikon D300 for an afternoon once though and it was glorious:
